[edit] WordCamp Association Rules

[edit] Preamble

As a non-profit association incorporated in New South Wales, WordCamp Association must adopt a set of rules which guide it's committee and members in all matters.

At the time of incorporation, the WordCamp Association adopted the "Model Rules" for associations with some modifications. Set out below is a link to the "Model Rules" as well as a link to the modifications.

[edit] Model Rules

The Office of Fair Trading (NSW) has developed model rules, which cover the matters required by Schedule 1 of the Associations Legislation Act. These rules are modified from time to time by the Office of Fair Trading, and it is inferred in the rules that in such a case the WordCamp Association automatically inherits these modifications in it's own rules.

[edit] Modifications

For the purposes of the WordCamp Association some rules were modified at the time of incorporation to make them less onerous. The justification for this was based on the associations primary activity, the annual WordCamp conference event, and the geographically dispersed nature of it's intended membership.

The modifications are available on a separate page to allow for easier tracking of changes. According to section 37 of the "Model Rules", changes can only be made to the WordCamp Association rules through special resolutions as outlined in section 31. These changes must be reported back to the Department of Fair Trading.

[edit] Potential Revision

It was suggested by members at the annual general meeting on 30th November 2008 that the association consider the rules of the Sydney Linux Users Group as a potential replacement for these rules.

Any member interested in presenting a proposal for the implementation of this or any other new rules or modifications should contact the association secretary in writing to discuss this.
